Who are these "Ladies of the Pen"
These women are female inmate pen pals.  The women featured at "Ladies of the pen"  are women that come from all walks of life, from all over the United States. They are presently incarcerated in an institution where there are often separated by hundreds, or thousands of miles from family and friends. They have virtually no contact with the outside world. They are often very lonely.  Sometimes they are scared, discouraged, disheartened.  Most of the women have committed very minor crimes and are due to be released within two years.

What does "Release Date" or "Earliest Release Date" actually mean?
Release dates and earliest release dates are simply an approximation.  The ladies really don't know when they will get out.  They get time credit for good behavior, the parole board has allot to say about when they get out.  Very few women actually serve their entire sentence - most are released sooner.  Generally, when a women gives an exact date (6/23/2005).  That's when she'll be released.  When she gives a year or a month and a year (6/2005), then that generally means that she will go before the parole board or that's when she will be evaluated for early release.  She'll be released within 6 months of this date.

If the release date has simply a question mark. (?)  That means that the lady did not provide that information to us.  Not that she will never get out.  Remember, these ladies are in minimum security facilities and WILL be released.

What if the "Release Date" has expired?
This means that she may have been released!!  We have her current address on file, if that's the case.  It also may mean that her release date has been modified to a different date.  Write to her and ask her for her current release date.  If for some reason your letter is returned as "undeliverable" or "No forward address", we'll replace them at no charge.

What is it really like to write these women?
We have found them to be very warm, honest, sweet, sensitive, and loyal, and often passionate. They do not receive much mail (sometimes no mail) from family, or friends. They have no access to the internet, or to email. Unless someone gives them a subscription, they do not have access to newspapers or magazines. They are really quite isolated from the outside world.

I am skeptical about writing someone who is incarcerated.
Any woman, or women, that you choose to write will be very appreciative. When you correspond with these women you will find that they make excellent pen pals. They can also become very good friends, lovers, and wives upon their release.  They are listed on this site because they have all expressed a sincere desire to meet and correspond with nice men.  Many of these women are continuing their education where they currently reside.  Most will do very well once they are released.  If you are thinking about getting serious with one of these women in the future, there is no reason to believe that they will ever be in difficulty again.  After their release they will be living in a new city, new environment, and a new life.

Can these women be trusted?
Some of them can and some of them cannot!  The best way to find out if she is telling you the truth is to "verify" her information with the dept. of corrections.  Click here for details - Verify Ladies' information

When I write a letter can I enclose stamps, pictures, and so forth?
Each web page has a description and restrictions on what that Lady can receive.  Feel free to ask them in your first letter.  Each institution is different and each Ladies circumstances are different.  Some can receive stamps, Gifts, Clothing, etc. and some cannot.  You can send a gift from our site if you wish.  All institutions accept our gift program.  Click here:  Send a gift to an inmate.

Most institutions will permit computer scanned pictures and  Photo graphs in the letters you mail.  These women TRULY love this, and appreciate your sharing pictures of your life, your city, and bring some of the outside world to them!  Most institutions do not permit Polaroid's

Do these women really want to receive mail, and do they honestly want to meet someone on the outside?
Definitely Yes! All of these women love getting mail. They really do! They are truly appreciative of mail, and especially enjoy reading letters with pictures of yourself, your city, your hobby.  Can you imagine being confined for months or years to the same four walls with no contact with the outside world.  You will find the women on this site to be fine women, kind, interesting, passionate, sincere in their desire to meet someone.

Most of the women are truly looking for a good caring man to help them upon their return to society.  Many strong bonds have been formed through first becoming a pen pal.  Many marriages have also taken place, some while the women were still living within the institution.

Are most girls in there looking for true soul mates, and marriage? Are they serious about marriage, after they get out?
Yes, Yes, Yes ....  Most of them spend hours and hours dreaming of the day they can have a Man again.

I have pictures on my computer. How do I send them a picture from my computer?
You can't!  None of them have access to a computer.  All correspondence must be done by snail mail (US Postal Service).  The best way to get your photos to the women is the "Expose yourself to the Ladies" program.

Can I Telephone these women?
Outgoing collect phone calls, and 800 or 888 calls are allowed.   Again the rules vary from one place to another.   But one call a month, or on a Holiday, can be extremely rewarding for the both of you.  Most women will not ask to call you (because of the cost) unless you  make the first offer.

Can I visit these women.
Absolutely. Visits are truly wonderful for these women.  Most all would love to have you visit them.  They really do love to have visitors.  These women seldom see anyone from the outside. And visits with family can be very rare.  Some women are located 1000's of miles from their home.  We can only imagine how happy they are to have a visitor.  The women will tell you the rules for visitations.  Most are very comfortable.  In nice weather the visits are often held outside in a "park" like setting.  Most, if not all, are held in lunch rooms and cafeteria's where food and drink can be bought.  Children are welcome, and some have games for the visitors and adults to play.

Some of these women may be shy about their appearance (make up, hair, and lack of nice clothes).  Make it clear to them that you want to meet them in person.

Do you think that if I write one of these women, I will actually get to see them
and be able to do things with them once they are released?
Without a doubt!!  If you write a woman who is incarcerated, and stand by her, send her Holiday cards, birthday cards, etc., you will have a friend for life.  That person will never forget you (would you ever forget them if the situation were reversed?)!  Chances are very good that if you have a good rapport with your correspondent, they will want to spend time with you just as much as you will with them.  Honestly, corresponding with these Ladies is a terrific way to make a very strong bond, and at the least, you will have a very loyal and faithful friend for the rest of your life!

We who are living on the outside cannot even begin to imagine what it is like when "Mail Call" occurs day after day, and there is never any mail for these women.  Similarly, we cannot begin to imagine the happiness that comes to these women when they DO receive mail!!  Please do not be fooled into thinking that the beautiful women get hundreds of letters a week just because their picture is on the net.  This just is not true!  Most women do not get any mail from anyone.   Honestly, these women are TRULY thrilled to hear from anyone who cares enough about them to take the time to write them a nice letter.

Should I write to more than one woman at a time?
Sure, there's no problem with writing to several women at one time.  They all will appreciate your honesty, if you choose to tell them that you are writing other women.  Writing to several women at one time has several advantages.  Most, if not all, will write you back!  Then you can choose your mate based on their return letters.  Also, if you write to several different women at one time, they may not be interested, but know of several other women that are.  They will give your address to one of their special friends.

How can I be sure that the woman or women that I'm writing to are telling me the truth?
You can access the Department of Corrections database and verify all the information given to you.  In addition, you can find out previous convictions and her entire criminal history!!
Click here:  Verify a Ladies' information.

How can I help these women?
Organize a letter writing support group.  Post the web site www.ladiesofthepen.com on your web site.  Send the site to a friend.  Most of all WRITE TO THEM.  You can do more for these ladies by simply writing to them.  It makes there whole week when they receive a letter.  Birthday cards work very well!  The best thing you can do is Send her a gift.

Can I, or should I, send these women money?
This one is completely up to you.  They get paid less than $20.00 per month in most institutions.  They need to buy personal products such as laundry soap, hand soap, make up, cigarettes, and stamps to write you back.  Sending as little as $10.00 or $20.00 will help them a great deal and it will ensure that they can afford stamps to write back to you.  Most institutions require a postal money order and a voucher slip sent to the prison trust fund in her name.  If you would like to send money to a specific woman, we can help.  All you need is her "Ladies of the Pen" personal code located on her page and her first name.  We will send it  to the appropriate trust fund.  It usually takes about two weeks to post to her account. Click here for secure online service.  She'll Love you for it, guaranteed!!

Why are there nude or semi-nude photos showing breasts on the site?
"Ladies of the pen" receives well over 2000 photos a week!  Some of them nudes or semi-naked women.  Many of the women on our site are former strippers,  former dancers, former escorts, and a few ex-porn stars.  Many of them have erotic and sexy photos that they want posted.  We do not post all of them, we reject most of them.  However, beginning on March 1, 2005, we began accepting and posting the semi-nude photos.  None of what you will see on the site is hard core, it's all softcore.  These women all want mail!  A response from the girls is almost guaranteed!  They are very lonely and need some one to help them through the time.  Posting a sexy photo helps a great deal.  Most photos showing breasts are verified through our department of corrections database.  (up to 98%).   However, some of the more recent photos have not yet been verified.

Why are some of the postings listed as "Removed by request" or "Removed by Tina"?  What does this mean?
"Removed by request" means that the women has requested to be removed.  Some of them have testimonials thanking "Ladies of the pen" for our help in finding them a relationship.  "Removed by Tina" means that the girl was removed by the owner of the company.  This could be for several different reasons.  One is that we have found false information. Another is complaints from the guys.  Another is information gained from Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers.  In some cases, they have asked that we remove a women from the site.
